On 1 December 2023, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted accelerated approval to Eli Lilly\u2019s Jaypirca (pirtobrutinib) for the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).<\/p>\n

This was for those who had previously received a Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor \u2013 AbbVie<\/a>\u2019s Imbruvica (ibrutinib), AstraZeneca<\/a>\u2018s Calquence (acalabrutinib), or BeiGene\u2019s Brukinsa\u00a0 (zanubrutinib) \u2013 and a B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) inhibitor, AbbVie\/Roche\u2019s Venclexta (venetoclax). <\/p>\n

The BTK and BCL-2 genes\u2019 expression is strongly associated with disease progression and resistance to chemotherapy.<\/p>\n

CLL and SLL are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal lymphocytes.<\/p>\n
