TUESDAY, Dec. 5, 2023 (Healthday News) — Hunting season has begun in many parts of the United States, with millions of Americans heading into the woods in hopes of bagging a big buck.<\/p>\n

But with the season comes tragic accidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, within the first 72 hours of hunting season, we see hunting-related injuries,\u201d said Amy Bollinger<\/a>, trauma education, outreach and injury prevention coordinator at Penn State Health’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. \u201cFortunately, there are things you can do to prevent that from happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is the injury hunters tend to suffer the most?<\/p>\n

Falling out of tree stands is a very common injury, and since most stands range from 10 to 20 feet high, a fall can be crippling, Bollinger noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cFalls from those heights can cause broken bones, spinal cord injuries, head injuries and even death,\u201d Bollinger said in a Penn State Health news release. \u201cYou just need to use extreme caution when getting into and out of a tree.”<\/p>\n
