Our charity partnership with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) comes to an end in April 2024, after two successful years of fundraising and awareness raising as part of their ‘Giving Something Back’ initiative.
Managed by the ‘Giving Something Back’ committee, staff at the FOS, which settles disputes between customers and financial service providers, raised more than £20,000 to further research into kidney disease. They achieved this by participating in a range of challenges, including a bungee jump, and supporting our charity at events such as our London Bridges Walk and Glastonbury.
There are estimated to be 7.2 million people in the UK currently living with chronic kidney disease, and 20 people are diagnosed with kidney failure every day. Therefore, it is no surprise that members of staff at the FOS, who employ over 3,000 people, have personal experience of kidney disease and the challenging nature of current treatments such as dialysis. Their openness with colleagues, and an increased awareness of kidney disease across the FOS, spurred staff on to make a real difference together.
A worthwhile experience
Abby Thomas, Chief Executive and Chief Ombudsman of the Financial Ombudsman Service, said “Whether it was a sponsored walk, a litter pick at Glastonbury, or a nail-biting bungee jump, I’m so proud of the efforts our people have made to fundraise for this worthwhile charity.
“Partnering with Kidney Research over the past two years has been such a worthwhile experience for all of us.
“We’ve learnt so much more about the charity’s vital work – both in supporting patients and families affected by this cruel disease, and in pioneering the research which hopefully will end this illness once and for all.
“We may have only played a small part but giving something back has been hugely rewarding.”

“The money will help transform treatments for kidney patients, who currently face multiple restrictive dialysis sessions each week and transplants which last an average of just 20 years. Breakthroughs in research will vastly improve quality of life for patients and their families.”
