Posted on October 27, 2023 Updated on October 24, 2023
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited proposals to establish Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrative Health Research (AI-ACIHR) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under Extramural Programme. This is following a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the Union Ministry of Ayush and the ICMR at an inter-ministerial level.
Submission of AI-ACIHR concept notes (inclusive of sensitization meeting) is November 30, 2023 and shortlisting of concept notes is by December 29, 2023. Submission of detailed proposal (inclusion discussion with project screening and development committee) is February 29, 2024.
There is a need for an integrated healthcare regime that can guide health policies and programs in the future. This is also to promote high impact research on Integrative Health to generate evidence in priority areas of national importance in healthcare utilizing modern scientific methods. This is a joint effort to establish Ayush-ICMR Centers for Advanced Health Research at AIIMS in phases. Joint efforts will be in place to conduct high-quality clinical trials on identified areas/disease conditions of national importance with promising integrative therapies to generate evidence for wider acceptance.
Principal Investigators (PIs) from all AIIMS institutes can only apply under this scheme. PIs other than AIIMS or from non-AIIMS institutes will not be considered. Scientists from ICMR institutes or councils under the Union Ministry of Ayush are not eligible to apply under this call. ICMR or Union Ministry of Ayush scientists may be named as co-investigators/Co-PIs in these projects, but no funds will be given to scientists from these institutions.
The broad scope of this call is to develop integrative health research through integrating Ayush system with conventional bio-medicine, and modem technology. This will bring integrative healthcare to the people for improved patient outcomes through innovations related to diagnostics, preventive, health promotive as well as treatment methods.
Under the Extramural Research Programme, ICMR and Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Union Ministry of Ayush will jointly fund to set up Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrative Health Research (AI-ACIHR), at AIIMS to conduct research on identified areas focusing on integrative healthcare by experienced research teams.
A proposal can be submitted for financial support through online mode only by the PI on behalf of the proposed team of scientists/professionals who have a regular employment in the AIIMS. Collaboration with Ayush institutions is also allowed. The research team should have credentials for relevant skills, experience and demonstrated ability to solve research problems under consideration in both Modern and Ayush health systems.
This will also help to identify gaps in knowledge and priority areas where the approach of integrative medicine may have potential and conduct integrative research in these priority areas to generate robust evidence. The objectives also include to develop Integrative management protocols with inputs from both traditional and modern medicine in the identified priority diseases based on the generated evidence. The research scheme will carry out mechanistic studies to explain the integrative medicine approach.
