My Incredible Co-op Journey at BioPharma Services

Written By: Sunpreet Sodhi

My name is Sunpreet Sodhi, and I’ve been working in BioPharma Services for the past 3 months. Currently, I’m enrolled in a clinical research program where I’ll be learning theory for 9 months and intern for 3 months. As an intern, I have had a great experience at BioPharma Services, as I detail below.

Firstly, I underwent safety training and became familiar with the staff and surroundings. After that, I learned about standard operating procedures (SOPs) by reading them. Then, I was introduced to Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) and observed their work closely. I got to learn about clinical studies from the basics, starting from recruiting subjects, eligibility criteria, screening parameters, dosing, and handling.

I also learned about IRB approvals, protocols, and how sensitive documents are filled and handled. Once I understood the basics, I received hands-on training and started working on parts of my clinical studies independently. I continue to learn new things every day, and this experience has boosted my confidence as a CRC.

I have been fortunate to work with an exceptional team of managers and staff at the BioPharma Services. They have consistently displayed a high level of professionalism, providing me with unwavering support and guidance. Their expertise and dedication have been invaluable to me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have them as colleagues.

Moreover, the staff at the BioPharma Services have been not only professional but also friendly and approachable, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer advice. They have also been respectful of personal boundaries, creating a comfortable and welcoming work environment.

Overall, I cannot thank the BioPharma Services team of Clinical Research Coordinators enough for their outstanding work and unwavering commitment to excellence. They are truly a remarkable group of individuals who have made a positive impact on my work experience.

After some reflection, I believe BioPharma Services has become a hub of activity and excitement. It’s a place where food and festivities are always present, making it a daunting task to lose weight. The staff is known to enjoy socializing and having a good time, so there’s always an abundance of delicious snacks and treats available. From freshly baked pastries to mouth-watering chocolates, there’s no shortage of indulgences to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Despite the hurdles of maintaining a sugar-free lifestyle, BioPharma Services remains my favorite place in the world. It’s not just the food that keeps me coming back, but also the people and the memories. The staff are warm and welcoming, always eager to strike up a conversation and make you feel at home. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, with music playing in the background and people laughing and chatting away.

I’ve spent countless hours at BioPharma Services, enjoying everything from birthday parties to work events. The memories I’ve created there are some of the fondest I have, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Even though it can be a challenge to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the joy and happiness that BioPharma Services brings to my life make it all worth it.

The enriching voyage at BioPharma Services Co-op, as a Clinical Research Coordinator, has been a rigorous professional development journey. Amidst the meticulous training and hands-on exposure to real-world clinical studies, the camaraderie and unwavering support from the team have been instrumental in bolstering my confidence and competence in the clinical research realm.

The lively atmosphere, array of delightful food, jovial interactions, and the ever-enthusiastic team, has not only fostered a conducive learning environment but also carved cherished memories through my path as a Clinical Research Coordinator. As I reflect, the blend of technical acumen acquired, the invaluable guidance received, and the joyous moments shared with the remarkable individuals at BioPharma Services, have etched a life-long imprint on my professional and personal journey.

From Student to Staff: My Journey in the Biopharma Industry

Transitioning from being a student at Oxford College to the world of Pharmaceutical Research is a remarkable journey filled with growth, challenges, and valuable experiences. In this blog post, I will share my personal journey, highlighting the key milestones and lessons I’ve learned along the way to my role as a Clinical Research Coordinator. From the early days of academia to working as a professional in the medical and pharmaceutical industry, this transformation has been an incredible learning curve.

My journey in Clinical Research began during my student years. I pursued a degree in a relevant field, earned a medical degree and Anaesthesiology, that provided me with the foundational knowledge required to understand the complexities of the industry. During this time, I was exposed to various aspects of medicine, including molecular biology, drug development, and regulatory processes. These academic years laid the groundwork for my future career.

As a student, I quickly realized the importance of internships and networking in the clinical research industry in BioPharma Services. I sought out opportunities to gain hands-on experience, working in laboratories, and collaborating on research projects. These experiences not only enhanced my technical skills but also introduced me to professionals in the field. Building a network of mentors and peers was crucial for my future success.

After graduating, the next steps were landing my first job in clinical research. This stage was challenging, as many entry-level positions required industry experience. However, my internships in BioPharma services proved invaluable, and I secured a position as a clinical research coordinator. This was a significant milestone in my career journey.

As with all workplaces, at BioPharma Services, collaboration is key. As a staff member, I learned the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and problem-solving. My ability to work with others and find solutions was vital.

Understanding regulatory processes and quality assurance became a significant part of my role. Ensuring that process met regulatory requirements and adhered to quality standards became a daily responsibility in the role of CRC. This aspect of the organization demanded attention to detail, meticulous record-keeping, and compliance with rigorous protocols.

Over time, I aim to advance within pharmaceutical research, taking on roles with increased responsibility, including project lead, contributing to decision-making processes and professional development. My journey to this point was not without challenges. From the pressure of meeting tight deadlines to navigating the ever-changing landscape of drug development, there were moments of frustration and uncertainty. However, the sense of accomplishment in contributing to the development of life-saving medicines and the knowledge that my work had a real-world impact made every challenge worthwhile.

My journey from a student to a staff member has been an incredible adventure filled with growth, learning, and accomplishment. The transition to a Clinical Research Coordinator was marked by dedication, continuous learning, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world through pharmaceutical innovation. While challenges were ever-present, the rewards of contributing to the pharmaceutical industry though BioPharma Services are immeasurable, and I look forward to the evolution of my career in this exciting and dynamic field.

My Journey from an Intern to CRC

Written By: Amritpal Singh

Transitioning from an intern to a CRC has been a pivotal moment in my professional life. It’s been a journey filled with challenges, learning opportunities, and personal growth.

During my time as an intern, I made it a point to build meaningful relationships with my colleagues and supervisors. These connections proved to be invaluable as I transitioned to a full-time role of a Clinical Research Cordinator. I reached out to those I had worked closely with, expressing my eagerness to continue learning from them. These relationships became a support system and a source of guidance as I navigated my new position.

As an intern, I knew that proving my worth was essential to secure a permanent role. I actively sought opportunities to showcase my skills. I proactively volunteered for tasks, and consistently delivered high-quality work. This not only helped me earn the respect of my colleagues but also demonstrated my commitment to the company.

Feedback has proven to be a powerful tool in my growth to a CRC. I regularly sought feedback from my supervisors and mentors, eagerly listening to their insights and advice. Constructive criticism provided me with a clear path for improvement and allowed me to refine my skills and performance.

Before stepping into my new role, I had a candid conversation with my colleague about my goals and expectations. This discussion helped me understand my responsibilities as a Clinical Reserach Cordinator and how I could contribute to the company’s success. Having a clear roadmap enabled me to focus my efforts and work more effectively. This conversation allowed me to have a sense of direction and contributed to a better understanding of the company’s long-term vision.

The transition didn’t mark the end of my learning journey; it was just the beginning. I maintained a commitment to continuous improvement. I actively sought out learning opportunities by participating in various projects to obtain further insight of the clinical research environment. This dedication to learning has been a driving force in my career development.

Every company has its unique culture, and I made a conscious effort to adapt to mine. I observed and respected the company’s values, norms, and work environment. Being a team player and effectively collaborating with colleagues helped me fit seamlessly into the organization.

Effective communication is essential in any role, especially as a CRC. I realized the importance of clear and concise communication, both with my team and superiors. Regular updates on my progress and proactive communication ensured that I was on the same page with my colleagues. Moreover, being an effective communicator helped me navigate through challenges to ensure clinical studies run smoothly.

My journey from intern to CRC employee has been a transformative experience. I’ve learned the value of relationships, the power of showcasing skills, the importance of feedback, and the significance of setting clear goals. Embracing continuous learning, adapting to company culture, and effective communication have been pillars of my success in this transition.
