Best Pharmacist Award 2024 of TN IPA bestowed on K Pandiyan of Saimirra Innopharm

K Pandiyan , general manager of the Chennai based drug manufacturing company, Saimirra Innopharm Pvt Ltd, has been bestowed with the prestigious ‘Best Pharmacist Award 2024’ instituted by the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association.

The award was handed over to him by the state health and family welfare minister Ma Subrahmanian at a function organized by the TN IPA at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

The award was given to him by considering his achievements as a pharmacy professional and his contributions to the development of the Tamil Nadu pharma industry. Pandiyan is closely associated with all the pharmacy professional organisations in Chennai as well as a founder member of the Alumni Association of the Madras Pharmacy College.

In the award function organized by the TN IPA, the health minister also distributed other awards of recognitions in various divisions of pharmacy.

T Muniswamy Naidu from Restech Formulations Pvt Ltd in Pondicherry is the winner of this year’s Best Industrial Pharmacist Award. Best Regulatory Affairs Award has been given to the former deputy drug controller of the TN DCA, P Veluswamy.

The honour of Best Educational Award was achieved by the former director of the state medical education department (pharmacy), Prof. Dr. A Shantha. Dr. KT Mani Senthilkumar, chief operating officer of the Royal Care Hospital at Coimbatore has been awarded with Best Hospital Pharmacist, and T Natarajan, proprietor of Janaki Pharmacy at Adayar in Chennai received the Best Community Pharmacist award.

TN IPA’s subsidiary unit, Tamil Nadu Pharmaceutical Sciences Welfare Trust (TNPSWT), has been rendering services to the profession of pharmacy since 1989 for assisting pharmacy students as well as the industry. The Trust is also giving research fellowship awards to selected M Pharm and Pharm D final year students of various colleges in the state. This year the Trust has received 195 applications, out of which 21 students have been selected for awards, sources informed.

From 2011 onwards, the Trust is conducting Essay Competitions on each selected subject. This year the subject was ‘Pharmacists – Meeting Global Health Needs’. An award in the name of late G Swaminathan has been instituted. A total of 124 applications were received from 27 colleges. On evaluation of the essays, three students have been selected for the “G Swaminathan Memorial Award’.

Another award on merit, Fourrts University Merit Award 2024, which was instituted by the Chennai based pharma major, Fourrts India Laboratories, for students securing highest marks in B Pharm examinations from colleges affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. This year three students were selected for the first, second and third prizes.

All the awards were given away by the health minister in the function held at the university.
