The healthcare industry is on the brink of a paradigm shift, with groundbreaking technologies and evolving patient behaviours driving a transition toward a more personalized and sustainable care ecosystem. Atul Kurani, vice president of global health medical practice & IoT at Capgemini Engineering, India, predicts that 2025 will witness significant transformations in clinical and business models.

“We’re moving from a product-focused approach to a service-centric value proposition. This change is being fuelled by advancements in AI, robotics, genomics, and sustainability initiatives, creating a digitally-enabled, patient-centric healthcare ecosystem,” said Kurani.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will continue revolutionizing the medtech landscape, from early disease detection to optimized treatment plans and accelerated drug discovery. Kurani emphasized, “AI will foster a collaborative relationship between doctors and machines, significantly improving outcomes in surgeries and care delivery.”

Applications like autonomous mobile robots for hospital logistics and AI-powered surgical systems will become commonplace, enhancing efficiency and precision.

Smart health platforms and portable medical devices are set to dominate healthcare, enabling real-time health monitoring and management outside traditional settings.

“Digital biomarkers will provide precise and personalized interventions,” Kurani noted. Devices like intelligent inhalers and glucose monitoring systems with insulin pumps will play a pivotal role in preventive care and adherence to treatment plans.

The adoption of robotic-assisted surgeries will expand beyond general procedures to orthopedics, neurosurgery, and cardiology. Kurani highlighted, “Next-generation systems with AI-guided surgical planning and real-time imaging will minimize complications and recovery times while improving clinical outcomes.”

Wearable robotic exoskeletons and advanced automation will also enhance rehabilitation and support systems.

The shift toward targeted therapies using genomics and biomarker analysis will redefine treatments. Advances in CRISPR and gene-editing technologies are expected to unlock cures for previously untreatable conditions.

“This era of personalized medicine will make treatments more effective and accessible, tailoring care to individual patients,” Kurani explained.

Regenerative medicine, including stem cell therapy and 3D bioprinting, is poised to transform how implants and prosthetics are developed. Innovations in biomaterials will enhance the functionality and integration of these medical solutions with human tissue.

“Customized implants will deliver better outcomes, bridging the gap between innovation and patient needs,” Kurani stated.

Sustainability is becoming a cornerstone for healthcare providers, driven by eco-friendly designs, circular economy principles, and sustainable supply chain management. Despite financial pressures, companies are prioritizing green initiatives.

“The industry’s commitment to sustainability is essential for long-term success and ethical responsibility,” said Kurani.
